Chains of Labor
The shadow of slavery from old times seems never to have left, as they fit into the industrial giant wheel like steel pins through years of repetitive manual labor. This is the concept of alienation described in Marx's Capital: a state of estrangement, detachment, and loss experienced by workers, and the alienation or distortion of their relationships with their labor, the products, other people, and society. With this project, I hope to prompt people to rethink the connection between performative work and slavery, and the relationship between industrial development and the living conditions of laborers.
